Just Launched A Dry Shampoo And Argan Oil Hair Mask By Orlando Pita!

He's done it again guys. Orlando Pita just launched two, new incredible products! The first is a dry shampoo...but wait for it...it's just not any old dry shampoo. It's clear! Meaning no color which (I think) is the first of its kind. The second is an Argan Restoring Treatment Mask. It's a paraben-free hair mask that leaves hair feeling luxurious.

Let's face it. The man not only is a wiz at hair, he sure knows how to create hair products that won't sit long on the shelf. Similar to his previous launch (a Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo, conditioner and oil) these new products are expected to be a hot commodity among hair-industry specialists.

So hurry now to your local Costco and treat your hair to the finer things in life.

Product Review For Smiley360.com On Just For Men Beard Cover

Smiley360.com  recently asked me to take part in a survey using Just For Men beard cover. Having never colored my beard and already sporting greys, (which I've been plucking) I decided to give it a go!

As a hairstylist/colorist with an extensive male clientele needing hair color, I thought that I could put my color expertise to good use here.
Out of a total of 11 different color shades for free, I chose medium dark brown.  Knowing that color tends to have some red tones, I decided to do test on a small area of hair to see the results. 30% of my beard is gray. If you're totally grey, you will want to adjust the shade and tone. The shade is how dark it is and the tone refers to the tonal value, be it more red or brown.

Round 1 - I mixed the color as suggested in the little tray which was very easy. Because I'm not fully gray, I decided to brush the color only in my grey areas. As I expected it was brown with red tones. Often we see men walking around with reddish hair and beards. This is due to the color not having enough ash.

Round 2 - Knowing this I decided to mix the medium dark brown with the ash brown. The ash brown will control the red in the color, giving it a more masculine finish. I mixed the same amount from each, but this time I applied it more aggressively. The coverage was really good! Because I mixed the two shades, I was able to get a real brown without that reddish cast. My beard felt a little dryer and more coarse, which is the norm even when coloring the hair on your head.

Below are some important tips to consider when coloring your beard.

1) Always add ash to your chosen beard color. Just for Men offers ash in different shades. Use them and you won't end up with a reddish beard in 2-3 weeks. If you have dark hair like me, choose any of the browns that you like and add ash brown.

2) When applying, be aggressive. The hair on the face is curly, coarse and thick. You need to get the color in there. I recommend brushing your beard to soften the hair, then applying the color.

3) If you're like me and have a certain amount of gray, try not to color the hair that does not need it. If you choose your color wisely, you should be able to get a nice blend.

4) After washing off the color, you may want to condition your beard. You condition the hair on your head so why not your beard?

5) When choosing a color always choose one shade lighter. Color that tends to work this fast tend to be darker.

6) When you need to color your beard the next time, I recommend doing in on the days that you trim your beard. Cut off the old ends that already have been colored. If you start layering old color on top of new color, it can end up getting too dark. Coverage is important, but you don't want to end up looking like Brutus from Popeye the Sailor.
Added bonus- Guys I used it to color my chest hairs, it was great!

Just saying:)

Brazillian Blowout's Define Polish

Check out the latest product that makes me happy. It's Acai Restorative Sculpt and Define Polish, by Brazalian Blowout.

After using this product for almost a year, I'd like to share a few tips that will help you add that extra va-va-voom to your hair.

For a short, slicked hairstyle - First use an alcohol-based product like mousse or spray gel for hold.  Follow that by rubbing the define polish in your palms till it disappears. Apply it to hair, starting from the roots to the ends. This product will add an intense layer of shine and help breakdown the alcohol in the mousse or gel, allowing your hair to dry without the stiffness while looking firm. As an added bonus, you can totally change your look at the end of the day by brushing your hair and seeing it transform into a soft, yet structured look.

For curly hair - The define polish can be used on wet or dry hair (but not both on the same day).  If you are air drying your hair, add the polish to your ends and style as usual. You'll notice your ends will be frizz-free and lovely. If you blow dry your hair, I recommend using a tiny bit of the define polish after drying, working through your curls by squeezing or twisting through your hair section by section. It will add shine and define your curl by fighting frizz and fly-away strands.

After a blowout - Add a tiny bit of the polish to your hands, rubbing it evenly between your palms. Then apply it to your hair, with a raking action. In other words, it's not an even application to all of your hair. This will add intense shine as well as texture and lift. I use it daily in my hair since I've been blow drying and love it as it smells wonderful! Avoid using it on fine hair.

Keep in mind that this product is thick and if overused will be too heavy, so less is more. (FYI...I have not used other products from this line and do not use their Keratin treatment.)

Avoid Your Hair Color From Fading

There's nothing more annoying than getting your hair color done and having it fade on you. No matter how great your hair colorist is, there maybe things you are doing that can hurt your hair color.

Here are a few things to be aware of:

1) Shampooing your hair the day after getting your hair colored is a common mistake. You should always wait 72 hours after leaving the salon. This allows your color to oxidize. In most salons post-color shampoos are used to remove excess color and seal the cuticle. Ask your hairstylist if they use one.
 2) Tanning salons are a huge culprit that no one is aware of. Always cover your hair when tanning.
3) Salt styling sprays, if used excessively on fine hair, can fade your color....especially when used in the summer. So as you can imagine, beware of the ocean! Always rinse your hair with tap or bottle water after swimming in the ocean or pool. Be sure to rinse your hair at the end of the day rather than adding more product on dry hair.
4) Clarifying shampoos are designed to remove impurities and buildup. However on treated hair that tends to fade, it will make it even worse. If you need to use a stronger shampoo because of excessive product use, mix your clarifying shampoo with your regular shampoo. This will help dilute it, making it less aggressive.

5) All naturals oils, when used excessively can fade hair color. Think of your hair color as a fake pigment added to your hair. Oils can seep under your cuticle removing color. This is especially true for blonds that have had lowlights added.

I hope these quick tips are helpful and keep your investment (hair color) protected!

Suffering From Hair Loss?

I received a tweet from one of my African-American followers concerning hair loss. She was panicking because she's losing a lot more hair than normal and it was freaking her out. To get to the root of the problem, I asked her the following:

"Do you relax your hair?"  - "Two or four times a year."
"Do you color your hair?" - "No."
"Any extensions?" - "Never!" (...answering in a proud voice.)

Based on her responses, I quickly gave a few recommendations.

1.  First, stop relaxing for a year. This will allow you to give the scalp and hair a break. Women often think if they relax their hair just a few times a year, it's totally fine. What they don't realize is, relaxers contain very strong chemicals and its negative effects can be long lasting. It's not that relaxing your hair is a bad thing, but one must know what their hair and scalp can withstand.

2. Use only paraben-free and sulphate-free shampoos. Sometimes we suddenly develop allergies to those very popular ingredients. I suggested the Peter Lamas line of products, which contain certified organic ingredients, is 100 % vegan and is cruelty-free. It also has no sodium laurel or laureth sulphates.

3. Stay away from hair products that have heavy oils and grease...or anything that can clog the scalp, not allowing it to breathe. Keep in mind that hair grows from the scalp.

4. Then I saved the best for last. I suggested Viviscal. If you talk to most models that are constantly having their hair worked on, they will say Viviscal saved their it.

Viviscal is a dietary supplement that promotes hair growth by reversing hair loss. Compared to other products that promise the same, this product contains no drugs, so it does not need approval from the FDA. It's great for the nail growth, glowing skin and is gluten-free.

According to the Viviscal website:

"Vivascal is not suitable children under 18, those with an allergy to fish, or women who may be pregnant or breast feeding".

So if you are experiencing similar problems with your hair hopefully this will help. For severe cases of hair loss, I recommend consulting a dermatologist for additional help.
